TOKEN PRICE COMPARISON

AELDER vs OpenRouter: model API prices.

Compare AELDER vs OpenRouter on 6 models in our catalog. Input and output are separate prices: a cheaper input token does not always mean a cheaper overall request.

USD per 1M text tokens. OpenRouter uses standard model-developer rates. Each example totals 1M uncached input + 1M output tokens. Rates checked .

For each model, OpenRouter prices use the model developer's standard endpoint, not the cheapest available route. Flex, priority tiers and specially discounted routes are excluded. DeepSeek uses the lower off-peak rate; peak rates are higher. Other OpenRouter routes may cost less than the standard prices shown here.

How to read these prices

These are base text rates over multiple requests, not a single request with a 2M-token context. Long-context tiers can change prices. Cache reads and writes, batch pricing, credit-purchase fees, taxes, optional services and bonuses are excluded. Model names can match while quantization, latency, limits and supported features differ. This is a rate comparison, not a quality or performance test.

Competitor rates are a dated snapshot from OpenRouter's public model-endpoints API; AELDER rates follow our shared catalog. Recheck the model and endpoint before switching. Sources: OpenRouter endpoint pricing and OpenRouter plans and fees.

CHOOSE WHAT FITS

Price matters.
So does the fit.

Consider AELDER when your chosen models are in our catalog and the input/output rates suit your workload. Use one prepaid balance and an OpenAI-compatible key for supported tools and applications, with no mandatory monthly subscription.

Keep OpenRouter on your shortlist when its wider catalog, free model variants or routing controls are important to you. This comparison covers selected models, not every model or feature on either platform.

Separate token rates from payment costs.

OpenRouter passes through model pricing and lists a 5.5% fee on Standard credit purchases. That fee is separate from token usage and is excluded from the examples above.

AELDER starts with a $5 top-up. Review our payment and bonus terms separately; this comparison does not assume a first-top-up bonus.

Check the features you depend on.

Streaming, tools, image input and API formats depend on the model and connection. Review the guide for your tool and test one small request before moving an application.

SWITCH FROM OPENROUTER

How to switch from OpenRouter.

For an OpenAI-compatible client that supports a custom endpoint, start with the base URL, API key and exact model ID. OpenRouter-specific options need a separate review.

  1. Choose the model and compare its rates.

Find the model in the AELDER catalog. Check its version and the features your application needs. Copy the exact request ID from your account's model list; OpenRouter slugs are not automatically interchangeable.

  2. Use your AELDER key and base URL.

Create an account and get a service API key. Replace the OpenRouter key in your secret storage and set this base URL:

    https://aelder.dev/v1

With the OpenAI SDK, the setting is base_url in Python or baseURL in JavaScript. Keep the key in server-side code or your tool's credential store.

  3. Review options, then test a small request.

Remove OpenRouter-only routing fields and plugins unless your destination explicitly supports them. Confirm the API format, model response and billed usage before moving more traffic. See the API reference or the n8n setup guide for a minimal starting point.

Before you switch

Is AELDER cheaper than OpenRouter for every model?

No universal claim applies. Compare the exact model, input/output mix and endpoint. The table shows 6 selected models at the stated rates; other models, cached workloads and different service tiers can produce a different result.

Can I keep my OpenAI SDK or coding tool?

If it supports a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint, you can update the base URL, key and model ID. OpenRouter-specific SDK methods, plugins and routing options are not automatically portable. Check the integration guides for your connection.

How does caching affect the comparison?

AELDER lists cached-input rates in its model catalog. OpenRouter also supports prompt caching on eligible models and endpoints. Actual cache hits depend on the request and cache conditions; the examples above assume uncached input and do not compare cache-hit frequency.

Start with the model you use most.

Check its rates and connection guide, then move one small workload before switching the rest.
