Connect Chatbox
Configure a custom OpenAI-compatible provider in Chatbox with the correct host, path and model ID.
https://aelder.dev/v1Connect an installed Chatbox app through its custom provider form. Use your service API key and the service Base URL above.
1. Create a provider
Open Settings → Model Provider, then select Add at the bottom of the provider list. Name the connection my-api and choose OpenAI API compatible as the API type.
Enter these settings:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| API Key | Your service key, entered privately without Bearer |
| API Host | The service Base URL above, including /v1 |
| API Path | /chat/completions |
Set the path explicitly if your version pre-fills /v1/chat/completions. The host and path must combine to end in /v1/chat/completions, with one /v1. This is an OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions connection; a model’s vendor name does not change the protocol choice.
2. Add a model and save
Add at least one model with its exact API ID from our authenticated models endpoint. If your version offers model fetching, use the returned IDs. Leave optional vision or tool capabilities disabled unless they are verified for that model.
Save the provider. Return to the main screen, create a new conversation and select this provider and model. Existing conversations can retain their previous selection.
3. Check the connection
The provider’s Check action can send a model request and spend balance. Select a model you can access, run the check or send one short chat message, then confirm the request in your service dashboard.
For 404 errors, inspect the combined host and path. For authentication or model errors, check the key and exact model ID. Changing providers in settings does not switch every chat. The saved configuration persists in Chatbox; reopen the app if its picker has not refreshed.
The official model configuration guide covers the form. The reviewed URL normalizer documents the host/path behavior.
